FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION01
What is the difference between joint covers and junction flashing?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER01
Joint Covers are designed to provide an expansion joint cover, providing cosmetic coverage of siding joints where the gap can vary over time. Joint Covers are installed on the face of the siding. While Joint Covers provide some resistance to water intrusion, they should not be considered water-shed protection. Junction Flashing is installed behind the siding seam, extends a full 3" on either side of the seam, and provides full protection against moisture intrusion.

1QUESTION02
Do you make products for panel siding (drip edge, "Z" flashing, etc.)?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER02
No, at this time we do not.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION03
Why is there a lip at the top of the junction flashing?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER03
The lip keeps the junction flashing from sliding down behind the siding during installation until the boards have been nailed. It also sets the proper placement for correct moisture runoff.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION04
What is the hole in the junction flashing for?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER04
The hole in the junction flashing is provided to hang the parts on a belt hook (available from Simplicity Tool) during installation. The hole is not for nail or screw application.

1QUESTION05
What can I use if my siding joints are opening up?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER05
We manufacture a variety of retrofit joint covers that can be used to cover siding joint gaps. Retrofit joint cover series include the 141, 142 and 143 series.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION06
What can I use if my wood siding is thicker than ¾"?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER06
We are working on adding tooling to produce corners with lips wider than ¾", however at this time ¾" is the widest lip corner that we offer.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION07
Can I use a corner that is longer than the siding I am using?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER07
In most cases, yes, as long as the back of the siding is flat. If the siding is rabbeted, or has a locking lip (Collins Sure Lock, for example), then the corner would have to be trimmed to the height of the siding.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION08
Do our products need to be painted?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER08
Most of our products are aluminum, and coated for corrosion protection. While it is not necessary to paint these products, in most cases it is desirable for a finished appearance. Our steel products have an EG coating which is designed for stain and paint bonding, and will not protect against corrosion. These products will need to be coated or they will rust in short order.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION09
How do I select the correct texture? You have smooth, wood grain, vertical grain, and rake shake. What are the differences?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER09
Refer to our texture images located here XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to find the texture that most closely resembles your siding.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION10
How do I know if I need straight edge or angled edge OSJ's or QuickClips?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER10
Check with your siding supplier. If you are using James Hardie HZ-5 siding, then you will need the angled parts. Otherwise, for HZ-10 and other siding use the straight edge style.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION11
Why the different lip sizes for your products? Can I just order a generic size and make it work?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER11
It is important that the lip size of the corners and/or joint covers are sized to match the thickness of the siding at the bottom edge. Ordering a part that is not the correct size will not yield a satisfactory installation. For most of our products a proper fit is critical to proper function and appearance. We do not offer "one size fits all" options.
FAQ-PRODS
1QUESTION12
Do you make corners for a bay window or a wider angle?
FAQ-PRODS
1ANSWER12
Yes, in most cases we can open up our corners for wider angle applications. This does, however, result in a small gap at the bottom where the two lips meet.

FAQ-QA
2QUESTION01
What nails are recommended
FAQ-QA
2ANSWER01
Top nailed (in the bend) corners are installed using a 6d galvanized nail. Bottom nailed (in the lip) corners are nailed with 14ga (3d) wire nails. Galvanized, aluminum or stainless steel nails can all be used, although stainless steel nails can, in some conditions, accelerate corrosion of the aluminum corner.
FAQ-QA
2QUESTION02
Do we recommend putting caulking behind the joint cover?
FAQ-QA
2ANSWER02
We do not recommend caulk behind the joint cover, although we defer to siding manufacturers Best Practices for joint treatment.
FAQ-QA
2QUESTION03
Can Off Stud Joiners be used as flashing?
FAQ-QA
2ANSWER03
Our off-stud joiners will act as flashing and as a backer for caulk, however they do not meet the width specification laid out in most siding manufacturers Best Practices (normally 6").
FAQ-QA
2QUESTION04
We are using prefinished corners.? Do you recommend caulking them to the board with matching caulk, or leave the edges uncaulked?
FAQ-QA
2ANSWER04
We recommend that the corners be allowed to float relative to the siding. Siding ends should be treated as per manufactures published Best Practices.
FAQ-QA
3QUESTION01

FAQ-QA
3QUESTION02
Do our products void the siding manufacturer's warranty?
FAQ-QA
3ANSWER02
When properly installed per siding manufacturer's published Best Practices, our products will not void the siding manufacturer's warranty. In fact, some of our products (or similar products from other producers) are required for proper siding installation.
FAQ-QA
3QUESTION03
Will these products rust?
FAQ-QA
3ANSWER03
All our products are made of metal, which will eventually corrode. All of the metal we use, with the exception of copper and stainless steel, is coated for corrosion protection. Properly installed and cared for there should be no corrosion or corrosion effects (rust streaks) for the life of the siding.
